What is Bubble Tea?
Bubble Tea has been around for some time, the drink was first crafted in the early 1980’s in Taiwan, and in 2022 it is sold all over Asia, Britain and the rest of the world. The base of the drink is made with freshly brewed organic tea, with a choice of freshly cooked tapioca or other pearls. Each drink can be customised by flavour and sweetness.
Tapioca balls come from the cassava plant. The process of making tapioca balls involves cutting the cassava root into small pieces, then boiling it for about 30 minutes or until it becomes soft and then extracted, sun-dried and packaged for selling.
An incredibly unique looking beverage, bubble tea is a Taiwanese recipe made by blending a tea base with milk, fruit and fruit juices, then adding the signature bubbles, tapioca pearls that sit at the bottom of the drink which are chewy. Fruit or tea infusions can be served either piping hot or iced cold, making a fun, quirky drink and snack. Bubble tea is served in transparent cups with a large straw so, as you sip the tapioca balls shoot up it and can be chewed. It’s called bubble tea both because of the tapioca balls, and the floating bubbles created by the vigorous shaking involved in its blending.
